so what the fuss
Speaking of Stevie, it sounds like it would be a mistake to miss his tour if it comes near you. Only 13 dates, first tour in 12 years, this kind of show:
Throughout the evening, the audience — middle-aged couples, teens, parents with their kids — was enthralled, singing and dancing along. From my perch in the bleachers, I couldn’t help but notice that with Mr. Wonder, you don’t just clap on the two and four: His music makes you a polyrhythmic machine too, tapping your feet on the one and three, bobbing your head between beats, and swaying as you smile. Suddenly, if only for a few hours, everybody’s got soul. - Jim Fusilli, WSJ
But why did he go and mention not blaming melismatic atrocities on Wonder? I never would have otherwise thought to do so.
You can get tour info at steviewonder.net, though as Fusilli mentions, both of his more official websites suggest neglect.
In the meantime…

Damn! He is playing at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga tonight, but of course, all tickets are sold out. They have some good acts there, including Etta James on the 11th. Too bad it’s a work day, and I won’t be able to go. I can always use a little Etta.
mamaforpeace, cut work for Etta James at the Winery!! There is nothing like Etta James live, right in front of you, belting out “Come to Moma” or “I’d Rather Go Blind”…oh lord. I’ll be there.
As for Stevie, I don’t think he is at the Winery until Monday night…but those tickets are going for $700 each!! And up! Sorry Stevie, I can’t swing that.
Oops…He is playing Tuesday the 4th.
You are right the 4th is Tuesday. I was looking at my August calendar! No matter, I can’t afford $700 either. As for Etta, I used to live in Lake Tahoe, and whenever she showed up there, I would buy tickets for each of her shows, so I’d see her sometimes 3 nights in a row. Last time I saw her was in an Indian casino, in Nothern Ca. She had lost a huge amount of weight, and it seemed to have affected her voice, not quite as poweful somehow. Still, if there was any way I could skip work, I would, but at the beginning of the school year, just can’t do!
Mamaforpeace, how lucky you are to have seen her so many times! And lucky to have lived in Tahoe, too. I’ve only seen her one time, maybe about five or six years ago.
Those Stevie Wonder prices are crazy. I did some checking and found that it would be cheaper to fly to LA and see him at the Greek then to drive across town and see him in Saratoga!
