i get my beat with you
“It’s interesting … the music’s evolved,” Hicks said this week. ……..
“We’ve settled into a great rhythm. The more you can play, the better the rhythm gets. Doing six months of work, the body of work grows, and it gets exciting, because you start understanding the synergy onstage with the different musicians. It’s definitely a fun job.” - Taylor Hicks, Mobile Register,08/30/07

I’d sure like a live CD of the evolved show…
Wow….great contrast, what! The first version is very paint-by-numbers, and he seems a little uncomfortable in his skin. He is getting back to his shadow tour roots with the relaxed, bluesy beat on the second version. Those who can make it to these later shows in the tour are lucky, indeed!
Isn’t it interesting that we have all thought his performances were superb all along the way……..did we realize what was missing and do we realize how far Taylor can still go in the future. I don’t think we did or do . So we enjoyed each and every one of them to the fullest and thank God we did. We can continue to have great expectations !!!
I’ve been happy with each iteration of Gonna Move from the LIMBO tour days to the present. Seeing these two clips — only 4 months apart — show how much Taylor loves to tinker with his performances and present them in a fresh manner with each concert AND also compliment the band’s talents. Another comparison is with the Maze! Viewing that song from its first performance as it waa recorded and as it was performed at the beginning of the tour to the present views (as a segue from Heaven Knows with a raft of meaningful tags) is an example of true musicianship. When Taylor takes off into his zone with the Maze, the audience stands in rapt silence to enjoy the beauty of Taylor’s voice and word patterns. Each performance of the Maze is a beautiful trip! Thanks C2what for this remimder!
Maze is a great choice as a song that’s evolved, so is Hold on to Your Love. Normal that this is continually on-going - not just for now but throughout a career. It does make me think that it would be cool if, for the next album, he has a chance to play some of the stuff live before recording - live with the music awhile before committing it to ink, so to speak.
I often wonder what “Taylor Hicks” would sound like if it were recorded today after touring the songs for the better part of a year.
That’s an excellent point == and may be what is going through Taylor’s head right now. He’s like a chef or a bartender, you know — add a dash of lemon in the cake batter and see what that does to the taste or how about some sugar cane and rum to the vodka and see what we get — oh a Mohita — nice, smooth but with a punch.
I’m enjoying the opportunity to listen to these remixes of songs we liked on the album or during the spring tour that have turned into a tour de force with a tug on the heart strings on the summer tour.
