you better slow down
“Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow cycles of nature, is a help.” -May Sarton
Most of the time, I like fast music. Rockabilly, punk, rock, swing, ska, big band, brass bands, even marching bands get my attention, catch my ear, and make me turn up the volume. It’s not easy for me to listen to s-l-o-w music. My hyper mind fights it. ‘Quick, change the station!’ it screams.
But when I do let myself ease into that slow pace that is so unfamiliar to me, I find…myself.
How slow can you go?
If you like, take about 9 minutes (you have about 9 minutes, right?) from your hectic day to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n with Peter Erskine:
Sweet Soul
If you dig that, then try this beautiful piece that, compared to the first, practically speeds along:
Touch Her Soft Lips And Part
Today’s sweet slow jazz is brought to us from the 1992 album, “Sweet Soul.”

Touch Her Sweet Lips And Part (W. Walton) Joe Lovano, Tenor Sax; Kenny Werner, piano; Marc Johnson, bass; Peter Erskine, drums
Sweet Soul (Peter Erskine) John Scofield, guitar; Bob Mintzer, tenor sax (solo); Joe Lovano, tenor sax; Randy Brecker, trumpet; Kenny Werner, Piano and organ; Marc Johnson, bass; Peter Erskine, drums.
And off the topic of ’slow’ but on the topic of ‘Erskine’ here is a vid of Peter Erskine being the legendary drummer that he is:

Thanks, jam. Needed this. It can’t always be whirling dervish
I guess most people don’t have 9 minutes to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n today…that’s cool. Actually, based on the views, I don’t think anybody even saw the music!
T & Jam…thanks! I finally had a few minutes at the end of the day to take a listen. Very mellow reflective music, and oh so smooth.
Lovely, lovely..
I’m correcting essays and listening. Should ideally take the 9 minutes and say sod the essays, but they seem to take on strange and hazy new meanings with the music, so it’s all good..
Love the quote - words for all of us. The music is quite good too, I don’t know much about the drums, but it would almost seem that it would take a lot of restraint to slow it down, almost making a slower song more difficult, maybe?
Perhaps it was all a dream, but I thought when I checked in this morning with my coffee, there was a new post dated today. Maybe I need stronger coffee…
Very nice. I enjoyed the music.
