Thanks, what. Very cool to learn about this broadcast. In fact, checking out the link, I see several cool concerts of interest. Alas, hd.net isn’t offered by my local cable service. Is Direct TV in my future?
Friends who attended tell me the Warfield show was excellent. I’m really liking these two Hicks originals you’ve given us in the clips — two very different flavors. And great harp work on My Friend.
It was a great show! I have to admit though, that with the camera crew there, I found myself watching the camera guys and try to see what they were picking up etc. as much as anything. My memories of the show as a whole are a bit foggy. I had been to a few shows on the tour already and it really made for a different experience. SF is my favorite city, so it was a great, great night.
The encore was IT though…can’t wait to see that one professionally produced and on my new TV (which, coincidentally just started to get HDNet two days ago).
…er…malisa you left some stuff out…
It was a fun show on my home turf…it doesn’t get better than that! I remember Taylor playing to the cameras a few times and it reminded me of back in the day when he worked the cameras on that TV show…
And the encore…crystal clear…Taylor.
He really gave 110% at that show…he put lots of energy out there. I can’t wait to see this concert again. and again.
One of the band guys said he (and, I had the impression, the rest of the band) didn’t even know the Warfield performance was scheduled to be filmed until they showed up for sound check that day. I hope there was time to change into their “good” t-shirts before showtime!
Seriously? Is this a HDNet project, then? I figured it was a Hicks project. Wondering then if there will be a DVD for sale. I had the impression from earlier press/rumors (forget which) that it would be released. Anyone got a scoop?
I was there. Like Malisa said, it was jammed with camera people. It was another show unto itself. I was close to the front. I captured short videos and compiled 23 minutes of samples from most songs — includes good footage of the “monitor surfing”. The energy was wild and, yes, Taylor definitely played to the cameras. His experience in this was evident. I was also able to capture this “video cam extravaganza show”, and I included the camera crew in many of my video clips. Picture a camera on the ground shooting up at Brian G. wailing on the sax! The video is cool but the sound is crap. I’m happy to pass this gem to someone who can help me edit sound. Most importantly, I grabbed a copy of a flyer that was posted on the doors at the Warfield. I have it my hand: “you may be videotaped or recorded”. I’m pretty certain I was videotaped (yikes). This legalese notice was posted by Bennett Productions/WHOMP, Inc. Whomp, Inc. is incorporated in Birmingham by Taylor’s lawyer earlier in the year. So, I’m excited because this may be the first attempt gaining more control of his direction. Anyway, guess I had a story.
bcath, let’s talk- sounds like you’ve got some good shit
Let’s let the show on HDTV do its job: getting new viewers to Taylor’s performances and hopefully getting them to want more and purchase the CD when it comes out in November (?)
Don’t rip it or try to make your own CD…… counterproductive and just plain unethical, in my extremely and humble and technically uneducated opinion. !!!
Dude. No one’s talking ripping here. Bcath has some amateur video from the live show that needs some audio work on it, that’s all.
I ain’t no dude , dude, but thanks for the response and setting me straight on the actual intention of bcath’s post.
Stand by my comments, but they were unnecessary , as I am sure everyone is aware of the downside of “THE RIP”.
[...] going to put me in the movies some techy/geeky info on the Taylor Hicks concert DVD, Whomp at the Warfield, coming up: “Taylor loved the work we did at the benefit concert and wanted to convey that same [...]
