it’s the boogie from the bayou, guitar playin’ from me to you
They put his CDs in the blues section….and that makes sense.

A Cajun man with the blues known for his guitar playing, it’s Tab Benoit’s honest and gritty voice that hooks me in again and again…ok, that and the guitar.

He was recently in my town for a concert, but unfortunately, I already had plans… GRUMBLE!!!!!
I hope he had a great time here, that he considers coming back so I can see him!
“Pontchartrain” is such a FUN album, that I will definitely be getting more of Tab’s stuff…
Tab’s on tour right now. Somebody close to a real computer want to grab a link to his schedule? Around here, he’s playing tight little clubs.
Tab Benoit’s tour dates:

I will have to check him out, he will be in Houston at the end of October. Thanks for brining him to my attention.
I really wanted to share some songs from his Wetlands CD, but I purchased it from itunes and the music is all in a protected format that makes it impossible to share.
Wetlands is one of my favorite CDs. I love “Her Mind Is Gone,” “Down In the Swamp,” “These Arms of Mine,” and “Georgia.” Oh…hell I love the whole album. I wish I could have posted some of it.
Oh! This is the guy that is in an imax movie I saw this summer “Hurricane on the Bayou.” It was an amazing imax film. Made me aware of some of the problems that the NO area is suffering from. And will again if they don’t change things. It was really a powerful film and his part in it was very memorable. I’ll go check out his music.
You know, I’ve been sort of peripherally aware of Benoit, but don’t own any of his music. After listening to these samples, I realize that must change. Just gotta say “wow” to this version of For What It’s Worth. Thanks T&Jam.
Silver hair? I think the christmas ornament necklace that guy had on would look nice with the silver hair. I think I’ll wear a dog mask though.
Ohhhh….great music….thanks for that.
I’m a big fan of Tab’s and have ‘Wetlands’, the cd; if I can figure out how to share it, I’d be happy to. Boogie from the Bayou, with Jimmy Thackery (Live Whiskey Store) is on my ‘blueswalk’ songlist - and is the second tune I listen to on my daily walk/jog. It’s a good 10 minutes long and gets me warmed up for the jogging portion of my outing (which starts with ‘Cut You Loose’ by Angela Strehli). Nice to see their music get some ‘play’ here.
Nice! Love the new “Power of the Ponchartrain” CD! I have a couple of others - thanks to someone putting a clip of “fever On The Bayou” on another board about a year ago.
I can see that I’m going to have to get a second job if I keep reading this blog. The Whiskey Store Live album looks might tempting.
Tab Benoit is certainly a treasure but he’s not even in the same league as Sonny Landreth.
For accordian players, check out Jamie Bergeron and of course, Wayne Toups.
VIVA LE CAJUNS, Baby! Takin’ over the world, one bar at a time.
Oh, and Robin…
GEAUX TIGERS!
Well rats, the day Tab Benoit is in Houston, I’ll be in Dallas at the Willie Nelson and Pat Green concert. Tab Benoit is in Austin the day before he’s in Houston but hubby won’t go for 2 shows in a row that far apart, too much traveling.
The cajun vibe in general, and Maven’s mention of Landreth in particular, makes me think people might want to check back to an earlier mention on this blog:

Maven, I must thank you! Just as I was feeling very sorry for us out in California, who never get these great musicians to come our way (or so it seems), you bring up Sonny Landreth. I look up his website, and find out that he is playing this Saturday at the Indian casino 45 minutes from where I live, in the bar, for free! Just came back from the show. The “bar” is actually a pretty nice club, with better sound than their main show room. Landreth is an AMAZING guitar player. There were only about 50-60 people there, but they were very enthusiastic. Great show! I’d still like to see Tab Benoit. I love his voice.
I am very thankful to all of you on this website who are helping me discover these wonderful musicians.
mama, that’s fantastic. Some mornings I love my little world.
