gotta do what you can
An interview with Tyler Hacks:

But is Japan ready?
Obviously, an off-hand comment in a radio interview shouldn’t send anybody to Orbitz just yet, but a Far East tour doesn’t sound like a bad idea. A fan there reported last winter that, unlike here, Japanese TV showed the entire Jrecords EPK for Hicks’ album (but that radio play was every bit as sparse there as here). You can see the EPK here in various formats (as well as some other things):Clip of the Week
Same fan, however, reports both Keb’ Mo’ and Derek Trucks will be showing up their in the near future. Not a bad path to follow, certainly sounds like their’s a potential audience for his music. Here’s a little reading on Moore’s gig:
So, wondering if there’s any Japanese blues, I find these guys on the streets of Osaka:

No matter where you are, you’ve got a right to sing the blues.

Morning spell check:
I don’t think Kenny Rogers’ name has a d in it.
“Derek Trucks will be showing up there“, not their.
Pet peeve, you know. Another pet peeve would be Japanese blues singers…
Haha. Thanks.that fits my life today on so many levels.
At least you got Tyler Hacks right..
Great interview. Thanks for posting it.
Got my first laugh of the day with, “You understand why Mick Jagger only weighs 35 pounds.”
Islands In The Stream? You really never do know what you’ll get from Tyler. (Don’t spell check me, Julie.)
It’s interesting that Taylor talked about the Ray Charles studio and finding the Live in Tokyo recordings. That event seems to have meant a lot to Taylor because he has talked about it during more than one interview. Paul Finebaum didn’t seem to realize how much it meant to Taylor.
I wouldn’t have guessed in a million years that Islands In The Stream was on Taylor’s play list. I remember him saying at the Birmingham book reading event that he was a “connoisseur of songs”. That’s a nice way to describe his taste in music.
Maybe the lyrics are speaking to him?
DOLLY PARTON
Islands In The Stream (Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton)
(Barry Gibb/Maurice Gibb/Robin Gibb)
Baby, when I met you there was peace unknown
I set out to get you with a fine tooth comb
I was soft inside, there was somethin’ going on
You do something to me that I can’t explain
Hold me closer and I feel no pain
Every beat of my heart
We got somethin’ goin’ on
Tender love is blind
It requires a dedication
All this love we feel
Needs no conversation
We ride it together, ah-ah
Makin’ love with each other, ah-ah
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah
I can’t live without you if the love was gone
Everything is nothin’ if you got no one
And you did walk in tonight
Slowly loosen’ sight of the real thing
But that won’t happen to us and we got no doubt
Too deep in love and we got no way out
And the message is clear
This could be the year for the real thing
No more will you cry
Baby, I will hurt you never
We start and end as one, in love forever
We can ride it together, ah-ah
Makin’ love with each other, ah-ah
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah
Sail away
Oh, come sail away with me
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah
Islands in the stream
That is what we are
No one in-between
How can we be wrong
Sail away with me to another world
And we rely on each other, ah-ah
From one lover to another, ah-ah
Anyway, at least he said he didn’t like the Pina Colada song. That song has always made me roll my eyes.
This is off-topic. Sorry. But since we’re talking about music that Taylro likes, did you all see that Taylor is highlighting a “CD of the Week” now on THHQ?
It says a lot that Taylor can say what he’s got on his ipod even if it might be, ah, how to say this - just a bit different. There are a lot of eyerolls when I mention a favorite song of mine - a particular Johnny Cash song that gets me every time I hear it - which usually isn’t too often. So good for him! And texas, I think it must be the lyrics!
Yeah, Japan is ready, but are we ready to give him up, even temporarily? Those folks out west are crying the blues!
Blue, my thoughts exactly. So glad Taylor is planning to go to Japan! A couple of stop out west, like in CA would be really nice too!!!
I remember an interview way back (don’t know when or where) when Taylor commented that he had just done some Japanese media. Maybe something really has been in the works for a while now. I think it would be worthwhile for him to tour internationally if there is a big enough interest. I’d like to think he’s going to make a few stops in Canada on the next tour.
Maybe someone is studying duets, considering a duet, writing a duet. Or maybe he just likes Dolly Parton. I do.
