they’re going to put me in the movies
some techy/geeky info on the Taylor Hicks concert DVD, Whomp at the Warfield, coming up:
“Taylor loved the work we did at the benefit concert and wanted to convey that same cinematic look,” says Morrison. This is from High Def Magazine. This is .pdf format, scroll down to page 29 to read the whole thing. The article references the fact that Hicks became acquainted with this production company when they were shooting the Habitat for Humanity gig he did with Warren Haynes and company. That show has been aired, and will be out on DVD early next year, according to the Government Mule site. It says it’s a hand-picked selection of the concert. Anyone know if Hicks is included in the final cut?

page 29 in the mag…page 15 on the pdf for me…
thanks.
I did see the concert on one of my Dish channels. What a great show. Hicks sang on “Fortunate Son” and the finale, “I Shall Be Released.” I have it recorded on my DVR but don’t have a clue how to YouTube it.
rainbow, “I Shall Be Released” was youtubed… well, the TH portion, http://youtube.com/watch?v=1wBcktlT-7A
I have the full song on cd and it never fails to give me shivers.
Sorry! A tad off-topic, although, what, I am pretty sure the upcoming Gov’t Mule dvd will include “I Shall Be Released”, since it’s the finale…
bluesme - thank you for the You Tube link for I Shall Be Released. I have the audio download, but for some unknown reason have never seen the video. You made my Friday! Every time I wonder or have been asked my favorite Taylor tune, I keep coming back to this one (well, also that incredible night in Tom’s River). To see this performance is pure joy, albeit short joy!
I was just looking at the Govt Mule site and I didn’t realize that the 2006 Pre-Jam and Xmas Jam were available for download. You can get the complete show in FLAC format for $16.95. Pretty good deal!
I have MP3s of the songs Taylor was in, but FLAC would be better.
I’m sure the Whomp at the Warfield DVD will be great from what we’ve seen of fan videos. Guess what’s on my Christmas wish list?
From what I’ve read, the 3-man harmonica jam (Hicks, Popper and Rafael) on “Walkin to New Orleans” was a high point of the show, hopefully that will make it onto the DVD as well.
sorry for the typo
karma, don’t sweat the typos. we’re not that small minded.
Not HD, but the awesome harp jam you mention can be seen on our post about the Glide interview of that gig. It’s here:Glide post
Sweet. Speaking of harmonicas (and that fabulous Delbert thread), do you know when Pocket Full of Soul is being released?
