caravan is on its way
If Hicks has turned you onto Van Morrison’s music (or helped you rediscover it) but you haven’t made much of a dent in collecting his work, now’s a good time to start. Over two dozen of Morrison’s albums are being reissued. The first set comes out today and includes Tupelo Honey (1971), It’s Too Late to Stop Now(1974), Wavelength(1978), A Sense of Wonder(1985), Avalon Sunset(1989), Back on Top(1999).
Morrison’s work is still in print, so these reissues may hold little allure for people with full collections. But the tracks have been remastered for better sound and the discs include some previously unreleased material, including some live tracks. So for people tracking down Hicks’ elusive Morrison quotations, is this ecstasy or torture (or perhaps a combination of both)?

I have always liked Van Morrison. I can remember singing to his songs on the radio when I was a kid. I currently have Astral Weeks and Moondance CDs. He performed in SF just a month ago. Good seats went for around $200.
I pre-ordered It’s Too Late To Stop Now. You can’t get this one anywhere else is what I’ve heard. Taylor did introduce me to Van Morrison and I own 6 or 7 albums now. I got to see Van in concert in Dallas this past December. It was worth every penny.
I just checked Van Morrison’s web site and he has a new album coming out on March 17, all new material. He wrote all 11 songs specifically for the album, Keep It Simple.
The article says that there are no big horn or string arrangements on this album. Well, I can’t wait for this one.
I knew about Van’s re-releases of certain albums, so when I was at my Barnes & Noble earlier today, I happened to meander my way towards Van’s section, and saw his “It’s Too Late To Stop Now” which is a live 2-CD collection…
SIGH!!!
When I saw that it had “Saint Dominic’s Preview” on it, I had absolutly NO WILLPOWER; out comes my Visa…
Some of both, thanks for asking.
Yeah, I’ll have to re-buy some stuff to get at some live tracks …but having this music re-released is more than worth it. Everyone should be able to have these CDs without having to pay ‘out of print’ prices on ebay.
And who knows? The “Sausalito” tag might be on one of those CDs…maybe in the ‘previously unreleased material, including some live tracks..’ (I’m not betting the farm on it, maybe…)
