all over again
On what’s post “hit me baby one more time,” I commented that I like variety on my radio, but I often get ‘hooked’ on a song or two and listen over and over and over again on my ipod or stereo.
Right now, at this moment, I’m hooked on Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings CD, 100 Days, 100 Nights. More specifically, right at this moment I am hooked on this song:
Answer Me
Oh yes. I play it again and again. And… I sing it. I sing Sharon’s part and I hum the horn parts. Then I play it again. And again. Then I sing it and just cue the horns with a wave of my hand… You get the idea.
Before ‘Answer Me,’ I was hooked on the title track from the album:
100 Days, 100 Nights
In my mind, I really sing the hell out of this song. You should hear it. In my mind.
(This song is available as a FREE mp3 download at Amazon right now. But the whole album is great, so if you have not already, I recommend shelling out the $6.99 to download the entire album.)
So what song is on ‘repeat’ on your ipod these days?

I have three artist that I’m repeating now. The new Eagles CD, Long Road Out of Eden. Bo Bice’s new CD See The Light, and Marc Broussards S.O.S- Save Our Soul.
A little bit of everything.
I have too many CDs that I repeat. Too many CDs too little time.
Kinda like wine.
I do the same thing, but don’t have an iPod. Not hooked on anything at the moment, but my most recent continual repeat here at work was “Living of Love” by the Avett Brothers. In the car I like to listen to “This Never Happened Before” by Paul McCartney. It has an amazing bass line that only stands out on my car stereo. Some others in the past year: “On and On and On” by Wilco; “If You Want Me” by Marketa Irglova; “If You Knew” first by Nina Simone and then by Jeff Buckley; “More Than Words” by Extreme; “Blue” by Joni Mitchell, “Falling or Flying” by Grace Potter.
Ah, Jeff Buckley, what a voice. Found him from a movie soundtrack, unfortunately after his death, but he is one I listen to alot.
Love her sound. Mike Greenhaus has a great article with some background on Sharon King over at jambands.com:
A Late Blooming Soul
I didn’t realize that the Dap Kings played on Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” (and other numbers on Back to Black). No wonder she got that great retro sound.
Bluberry, what movie soundtrack featured Jeff Buckley? The recording of “If You Knew” that I downloaded is from “Live at Sin-e.” He starts out by saying “Sorry about that” to the audience, and seems a bit nervous at first. You can feel the intimacy of the room by his performance and the applause at the end. I love it.
The movie was Ash Wednesday. Tough movie to watch, was panned by most critics, but I actually liked it. The movie only had “Hallelujah” by Buckley in it (I think), but the song was so good I went looking for Jeff Buckley. I believe there are quite a few tv shows and movies that have used his music. Check out his Grace CD.
And tandjam, I can see why you’re hooked on the Sharon King songs. Very good, so thanks! There’s a ton of good music out there - a short time ago, I don’t believe I would have made that statement -what a strange journey it has been; one that started by casually catching a nice voice on American Idol and following that voice online. Who would have thought it?
I LOVE Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings!!!
I happened to be at my Barnes & Noble one day, and saw a dark orange CD cover behind the cash registers in the Music Dept., featuring the CDs that they play…
I asked the lady in charge at the time who is singing, but she showed me the wrong CD (darn it!) but fortunately, because the CD is that 1970s orange, it is rather distinctive…
WHen I went in a couple of days later, what CD is in the “New Discovery” endcap, but this CD!
I listen to the samples, and fall in love with it!
