it seemed about a hundred years ago
A year ago today, Taylor Hicks began his first national tour. And while, the tour technically started in Jacksonville on the 21st, for me, it really started in Coral Springs a day or two later. I wasn’t there for any of the early concerts, but based on the audio around at the time, here’s where it was really clear that they were gelling as a group. This video was a sign of what was to come: some originals, some covers, lots of blues infiltration. Listening back, I realize that Josh Smith was walking that “Lonely Avenue” months before Hicks strolled down that lane.
Of course, there was the pop and prancing, too, but it was moments like this that made it all worthwhile. Hope he goes there deep and often in his next projects. We’re not about to relive the whole tour, but it seemed worth noting the start of such a strange and entertaining year.

Can’t believe it was a year ago today! Best memory: standing (along with the rest of the audience) for that entire first concert - so excited to hear what the set list would be and to see Taylor take the stage on his first solo national tour. The energy in that theater was unreal.
I miss Taylor
I was at the second show of the tour in Tampa. I remember Taylor looking back at the band with a happy, surprised look in response to the audience’s enthusiastic response to them. He put together a superlative group of musicians. The show was hot.
It’s funny how a year ago everyone was awaiting the tour. We couldn’t get enough. Now…what’s everyone doing? Awaiting his next cd and tour. We can’t get enough of Taylor…hurry Taylor..were all waiting!!!
I went to the first three shows in Jax, Tampa and Coral Springs. It was clear even between the Jax and Tampa shows that Taylor was starting to let loose the reins. The Coral Springs show stands out because he had everyone in the pretty staid audience standing and clapping wildly for “Badge”.
I’m with you — I hope he goes there deeply and often for the next projects — and takes Josh along with him for the ride.
wow..didn’t get any blues at the concerts I went to…but this is awesome, and had to be even more so live.
I’m with you Trish….I miss Taylor…bigtime. I can’t wait to see what he chooses for his next cd & tour.
(hello what!)
That’s the Taylor I love!
