Welcome to the revamped, ported c2what. I’m still tweaking things and still have most of the lost audio to re-upload, but the guts are all here. If you’re an old reader and wondering about the changes or how to find things, here’s what’s going on:

  • The big change is behind the scenes in that the blog is now “self-hosted” (not entirely accurate terminology), but it means that I’ve got way more control over the functionality of the blog: more kinds of media can easily be posted, various scripts and widgets can be used, etc. None of it’s necessary, but it is more fun for me.
  • The over all look (”theme”) was changed just for the sake of variety. I liked some features of this theme (rotating headers, numbered comments), disliked others (presentation of post meta data, navigation scheme), and really disliked the aesthetic of its original design (color, fonts, header shape, etc), so this was a good chance to cobble up a design that looked and acted the way I wanted. I may still tweak this some.
  • Although I started this as a music blog with a focus on Taylor Hicks, from the beginning, the music discussion traveled far afield. With Hicks off the road, it began to make less and less sense to have the sidebar dominated by old set lists, old tour schedules, old media, etc, and no good way to keep track of the info on the other artists we talk about. None of that has gone away, however. But now there’s an artists’ page that provides links to all of that stuff, as well as information to other artists we’ve written about. That page is at a very early stage of construction. But it points to the old c2w site, for people who want to reference those lists. There will probably be some reconstruction there, too, to take down the posts which are duplicated here and make the archival info more prominent.
  • I’m posting as “boolz” now, not “what”. “what” occurred sort of by accident goofing around and is not very helpful in page searches when I want to see what I said or if someone is addressing me.

So that’s the basic change. I’m still looking for a good place for the great sidebar pic of Hicks’ guitar rack. It doesn’t work well on this sidebar in this lighter theme. But I already miss it. Maybe it’ll move to the Speakeasy music forum. Which, btw, is now linked on the right under “discussion”.

Let me know what you think, if you’re so enclined.
